Holding the newspaper article in her hand, Leslie walked timidly into the clinic. Using her cane for support, weak from having spent 6 weeks living in their car, she slowly made her way up the hallway. I heard a noise and stepped out of the office. “Can I help you?” Is this this place? Can you help me get my medications and see a doctor?” Leslie and her partner Jeb were searching for someone to help them get medical help and support and rebuild their lives.
Leslie and Jeb joined the Taking Back My Life chronic pain self-management class and completed their weekly homework. Both of them embraced the changes and support and soon found a new perspective on life. Both of their pain levels have improved. Leslie has lost over 40 pounds and is now walking 3 miles to get groceries and go to the library. Life at times still continues to be a struggle but Leslie maintains contact with the clinic and appreciates the love and support she received here. “This has really changed my life. This is family here.”
